Cake Smash is a type of studio photo shoot that has taken the world by storm. A Cake Smash photo session is exactly what it means. You take a cake. You put a 1-year-old cute baby next to it. And bam! The kid smashes the cake. Cake Smash Photos are arranged photo shoots where you give your baby or toddler a cake to try, touch and finally destroy!
Happy 1st Birthday Selena! This cake smash session was held on Selena’s actual birthday – such a pleasure to be able to share her special day. This gorgeous girl was a smashing superstar. She started the smashing with her feet and after became brave enough to put all fingers into the cake. We all had so much fun!
We planned this cake smash session with Selena’s Mum and discussed preferable decorations and outfit for the Birthday Girl and chose this gorgeous peach tutu skirt with golden crown and paper fans.
Book your photo session early so you could choose the preferable date. Each session is individually styled based on your choice of color scheme. These sessions usually last around one hour and it is guaranteed that you will walk away from the session with some wonderful memories and images to share with your child as they grow up.
Some parents want their cake smash pictures ready for their child’s actual birthday to print out and display, and in that case, the session should be done at least 3-4 weeks before the event.
Usually I provide all the decorations: letters ONE and number 1 prop, decorations, range of backdrops and smashing outfit. If you have a specific idea, prop or colour scheme in mind you can contact me any time to discuss the options.
The only item not covered in this session is the cake itself (for health & safety / allergy reasons) but we can recommend a bakery or you are welcome to bring a cake.
A cake smash session include:
• Classic 1st Birthday Mini Shoot (Pre-cake smash)
• The cake smash itself
• Cake Splash – clean up bathtub shots with bubbles
• And if baby is still happy – an after bath pictures in the towel
All of this is quite an adventure for your little one so most babies have a nice long nap after and you can enjoy some peace and quiet and reflect on the magic year you have had.
Have you ever given your baby an entire cake to smash and play with? Most likely not. This means that you don’t know how your baby will react. It can make your baby feel over-excited or even overwhelmed. Some babies may not like the idea at first and may start crying or throwing tantrums and other babies and toddlers may not know what to do. Maybe they do not understand it and just poke their finger at the cake. So you might have to help them at the beginning – a little taste test usually works!
You can either buy a cake or bake it yourself. Make sure it looks aesthetically pleasing. After all, the cake is the main event. Chocolate cake can make your taste buds tingle and be prominently visible in your photos, but using chocolate cake can sometimes look like mud splashes – you may not get the intended effect in the end, so better choose a light-coloured cake instead.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to call or email me and I will be happy to help you in any way that I can to make sure that your child’s “Cake Smash” photos are something that you’ll cherish forever.
